THE RISING Sun compensated for its fourth place finish in the Men’s Open with the 38-Above title by edging Don Bosco United Football Club (DBUFC), 1-0, in the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup which came to an end last Sunday.
Rising Sun’s winning goal was courtesy of Norman Fegidero Jr, who converted a penalty in the 69th minute.
Fegidero was named as the MVP while his teammates Hayato Ayabe was named Best Defender and Larry Chew as the Best Goalkeeper.
DBUFC’s Warloo Sabella was the Best Midfielder while QCU’s Ronald Christopher Loayon and DBUFC’s Harold Buot shared the Golden Boot award as they both scored six goals in the entire tournament.
Third place was bagged by Queen City United (QCU) with a 6-1 routing of Echelon FC.
Scoring a hat-trick for QCU was Dexter Arrojado while Roland Duenas scored a brace. The remaining goal was made by Ric Baring.
Echelon’s lone goal was scored by Enting Cabella.
Prior to the Men’s Open championship match last Sunday, the two-time champion Leylam FC salvaged third place with a 6-2 dumping of the Rising Sun.
Kobe Marius scored a hat-trick while Leylam’s other goals came from Pinto Kaburo, Ene Famous and Rene Sanchez.
Finding the back of the net for Rising Sun were Ismael Abdumalik and Imran Hussain.
