Maka Girls bow out of ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’

CEBU’s all-female singing trio Maka Girls ended their Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) 6 journey on Sunday evening.

The group—composed of Gen Flores, Kristina Cassandra (KC) Dilao, and Raechelle Mae Faelnar—only got 2.53 percent votes.

In a message sent to Cebu Daily News yesterday, Flores thanked all their supporters and fans in their PGT 6 journey.

“Wala man tuod ta maka sulod sa grand finals pero ang pag welcome og pag embrace sa amoa is more than enough para maka ingon me nga we did our very best,” Flores said.Faelnar said she believes that this is not the end of their dreams.

“Thank you jud sa tanan ni suporta namo diri sa Manila and Cebu. We did our very best to make all proud and I know this is not the end. I love you all,” she said.

Of six semi-finalists, the Nocturnal Dance Company who got the highest votes with 44.50 percent became the first finalist that will proceed to the Grand Finals.

Another finalist, Orville Tonido got the nod of the judges and also made it to the next round.

Aside from the Maka Girls, JM Bayot, Salimpokaw Ko Masa Dance Troupe, and Johnny Villanueva also did not make the cut.

LIVE PERFORMANCE

Maka Girls performed a mashup of Little Mix’s “Salute” and viral sensation Karencitta’s song, “Cebuana” in their live performance Saturday night.
PGT judge Angel Locsin said the ladies proved that they could also go maintream with their performance.

“Pinakitaan niyo kami na kaya niyo ring gumawa ng isang mainstream performance hindi lang ‘yung indie na pinakita nyo sa amin during auditions. Good job,” Locsin said.

Locsin noted that Maka Girls were the only singers who qualified for the live performance.

She also said she wanted to hear more Cebuano songs from the girls.

“Alam nyo, hindi ko pinansin ang ibang singers sa show na ‘to dahil sa inyo. Kung napapansin niyo kayo lang ang singers na nakapasok sa semi finals. Ganoon namin kayo ka gusto,” the actress added.

To recall, the Maka Girls performed their original song “Gugmang Maka” composed by Russel “Ching” Alegado during the live auditions. They got four yeses from the judges—Locsin, Vice Ganda, Robin Padilla and Freddie M. Garcia.

The same song was their winning piece during the 37th Cebu Popular Music Festival held last January 16, 2017 at the
Cebu Coliseum.

Vice Ganda was impressed by the Maka Girls’ performance Saturday night.

“Para kayong hindi kumo-contest. Nagmukha nga kayong guest performer, in fact,” he said.

Vice Ganda also noted the ladies’ strong stage presence.

“Sa sobrang lakas ng presensya ninyo hindi na masyado napapansin o napagbigyan ng attention ‘yung mga vocal imperfections. Kasi vocally that was not a perfect performance. Dahil ang lakas niyo nga dating na deadma na ‘yun,” he added.

Before joining PGT, the singing trio joined Sinulog Idol (in different batches) and Cebu Pop Music Festival, where they emerged as winners.
Padilla, for his part, said he was happy with the performance of the Maka Girls.

“Alam ko na maraming lalaki nalulungkot ngayon dahil taken na kayo lahat eh. Kaya lang mga kalalakihan kung boboto kayo ‘eh husgahan niyo sila dahil sa talent nila. Hindi sa seloso kayo,” Padilla added.
