EASING HOLY WEEK TRAFFIC
Capitol plans to have a synchronized duty schedule for all traffic enforcers in the first district of Cebu as part of the preparations for Holy Week.
Joy Tumulak, Capitol traffic management focal person, said that enforcers manning the traffic in Talisay City, Minglanilla town, Naga City and San Fernando town should have a uniform schedule so that they could have a synchronized management of the worsening traffic situation in the area.
“Isynchronize ang schedule sa mga traffic enforcers sa Minglanilla, Talisay City, Naga City and up to San Fernando. Dunay mga time nga kinahanglan gyod og (There are hours that we need) traffic enforcers,” Tumulak said in a press briefing on Monday.
Tumulak said that according to their assessment, the traffic problem is mainly in Talisay City and Minglanilla town in southern Cebu.
“Kon sakay gyod nga problema kay naa gyod sa first district (If one talks about traffic going south, then this problem is in the first district),” he said.
Tumulak also said that a way to address this problem is for all traffic personnel in these areas should coordinate with each other.
Tumulak met with representatives from LGUs in the first district on Sunday.
He said they agreed that traffic enforcers would not be allowed to take a leave during the Holy Week.
They also agreed to synchronize their traffic personnel schedules especially starting from 4 p.m. up so that they could manage traffic amid the anticipated influx of passengers going home to the south during Holy Wednesday.
“Tungod kay gipaabot nato nga karon Wednesday maoy pinakagrabeng volume sa pasahero (We are expecting the huge volume of passengers going home to the south on Wednesday),” he said.
They also agreed that other personnel from other municipalities or cities to assist other areas who would lack traffic personnel.
They also agreed to strictly implement the “No Left Turn” in some identified intersections during peak hours.
“Mohangyo lang ta sa atong mga motorista nga patas-an lang nila ang pasensya nga dili sila maka-left turn anang panahona tungod kay ang gitan-aw kay ang kinabag-an nga concern (We are calling on them especially the motorists to be patient enough and not to do a left turn during those times, because we are looking at the major concern of the public),” he said.
Aside from that, Tumulak also said that he would be meeting with traffic managers in the northern LGUs until Danao City on Tuesday to implement the same plan and other traffic measures to ease traffic going to the north from Cebu City.
