ABOUT 80 violators of Lapu-Lapu City’s face mask ban were caught by the city government’s City Traffic Management System (CTMS) last Sunday and Monday.
CTMS deputy chief Roderick Daño disclosed the numbers, saying their office conducted a 15-day information campaign to inform the riding public of the city government’s resumption in enforcing the face mask ban ordinance.
He said there were 38 motorcycle riders caught wearing ski masks or bonnets while another four wore health masks without presenting the required medical certificate.
“The ordinance requiring motorcycle riders to present a medical certificate when wearing health masks had not yet been amended,” Daño said.
There were 42 motorcycle riders caught for wearing tinted helmets.
Most of the violators reasoned that they were unaware of Lapu-Lapu City Hall’s decision to resume enforcing the face mask/tinted helmet ban ordinance.
Daño said tinted helmets can be used by motorcycle riders provided they keep their visors open. Violators were fined P500 for their first offense.
Second and third time violators will be issued citation tickets for P750 and P1,000, respectively.
The 2009 ordinance had been revived following the spate of drive-by shootings involving motorcycle-riding assailants.
