CCPO to join govt’s campaign against recruitment of youth in rebel groups – Devaras

THE PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) will now be helping the military deter the possible recruitment of minors in Cebu City to join the New Peoples Army (NPA).

Superintendent Ryan Devaras, Chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said they are now in the process of planning their strategies while they await a formal order from Crame.

Devaras said they are also coordinating with the different colleges and universities in the city to monitor students’ out of schools activities like camping and other extra curricular activities.

He is also urging parents to make sure that they know where their children are and what they are doing especially during the two-month summer vacation.

On March 3, Central Command personnel arrested Myles Albasin, a Mass Communications graduate of the University of the Philippines – Cebu campus, and five other suspected rebels in Mabinay town, Negros Oriental.

Colonel Medel Aguilar, Centcom spokesperson, said that the youth should be protected from being influenced by the rebels.

“Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero, once said that the youth is the hope of our motherland. It is therefore very important for all of us to take action to protect them at all cost from the evil plans and motives of the CPP-NPA terrorist (CNT) group,” he said.
