Yap victorious in Japan

FILIPINO fighter Markjohn “The Journeyman” Yap continues to make waves in Japan after he successfully defended his Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight title against Japanese Takafumi Nakajima last Wednesday at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 29-year-old Yap emerged victorious after 12 rounds via unanimous decision. He improved his record to 29 wins (14 knockouts) with 12 defeats and no draws. Nakajima dropped to 29-10-1 (win-loss-draw) with 13 wins by knockouts.

All three Japanese judges favored Yap after 12 rounds. Judges Akihiko Katsuragi and Yuji Fukuchi scored it 116-112, while Katsuhiko Nakamura saw it,111-117.

Yap, a native of Cagayan de Oro, is a former ALA Boxing Gym boxer who transferred to Japan in 2012 under the Muto Boxing Gym.
