A shooting incident disrupted the graduation ceremonies of an elementary school in Barili town, southern Cebu at past 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

The suspect, Syrin Anotado, 30, a resident of Barangay Balao of the said town, entered the gym at Balao Elementary School with a firearm in his possession.

Anotado approached his common-law wife,
Lucita Rebuyas, 35, who was attending the ceremonies. The suspect fired a shot at Rebuyas using a .38 caliber revolver.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the head that caused her death.

Their son was among the Grade 6 graduates who were supposed to be recognized during the event.

PO3 John Robert Sacan, desk officer of Barili police station, told Cebu Daily News that Anotado voluntarily surrendered himself to police authorities.

Initial investigation showed that Anotado was intoxicated when he committed the crime.

Sacan added that jealousy may be the motive of the killing.

While Anotado and Rebuyas were already separated, the suspect was alleged of monitoring the victim due to his suspicion
that Rebuyas had another man.
