With the influx of tourist coming to Cebu, City Councilor Joel Garganera urged Mayor Tomas Osmeña to approve the request of the Cebu City Police Office, including the release of the P15 Million worth of equipment in order to enhance its peace and order programs.

In a press conference yesterday, Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera said he will pass four resolutions before the City Council urging Mayor Tomas Osmeña to provide P15 million worth of logistical equipment among others to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).

“If you (Osmeña) are really sincere in addressing peace and order, bisag kana na lang. That alone, P15 million,” he said.

He said there is a greater need to strengthen police and law enforcement following the six-month closure of Boracay wherein an increase in the number of tourists is expected.

The logistical equipment requested by SWAT CCPO includes 60 units of the M16/M4 type of rifle, 60 units of the ballistic vest and 60 units of ballistic helmet amounting to P15,168,000.

In a separate interview, Osmeña said that it is the role of the national government to provide funds for the police and not the city.
