THE Governor’s Cup Basketball Inter-City/ Municipality Tournament opened its second season with extravagance yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
Cebu Provincial Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III , Cebu Provincial Vice-Governor Agnes Almendras-Magpale and Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) Chairman Michel Lhuillier led the opening of the prestigious event.
Governor Davide expressed his utmost gratitude to all the people who made this event possible for the second time around.
“I want to thank the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission, the town mayors and all the participants. Thank you very much,” Davide said.
In the first game of the tournament, Bantayan routed the Santa Fe Seafarers, 83-58.
Romeo Sumbi Jr. tallied 33 points, 16 assists and 7 rebounds to lead the winning team.
John Villabrille had 25 markers for the losing squad.
Prior to the game, there was an exhibition match between some of the town legislators and mayors.
The Mayors won the game, 61-56, headed by representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr.
Another highlight of the opening was the search for Miss Gov’s Cup 2018.
Winning the north crown was Lorraine Hann of Consolacion while Talisay City’s Nikki de Mouran won the south title.
CPSC Executive Director Atty. Ramil Abing also presented minor awards to the towns of Tudela (Early Bird) and Boljoon (Best in Uniform).
