A GT-Express van and a colorum vehicle — a private owned van, who was illegally used as a van-for-hire — will be impounded for three months after their drivers were caught illegally transferring passengers bound for Daanbantayan town in Mandaue City at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (April 18).

Ahmed Cuizon, LTFRB-7 director, said that the operators of the impounded vehicles would also be fined P200,000. Cuizon in the LTFRB-7’s Facebook page said that van drivers were employing ‘yabo-yabo’, a Cebuano term for transferring water from one container to another.

He said that this is a technique of the operators to maximize their profits with the use of multiple colorum vans.

“The GT just came from the Cebu North Bus Terminal while the Daanbantayan-bound private van was parked at a gas station in Mandaue,” Cuizon said.

He also said that the operation to apprehend the drivers employing this illegal system was done after they received several complaints from passengers who complained about the hassle of transferring from one vehicle to another.

The operation was conducted, erring drivers apprehended, the vans impounded.
