The chances of Cebu City’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project starting work are “good enough to bet on”, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said.

The P17 billion BRT project is up for discussion by the Investment Coordination Committee of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) on Wednesday, April 25.

“I’m not saying I’m a sure winner but it’s enough,” Osmeña said during a press briefing at Saturday’s launching of the Kilusang Pagbabago movement in Cebu Technological University (CTU – Main Campus).

He said the NEDA-ICC will finally reach a concrete decision to start the BRT’s construction since they have “no choice.”

“Unless they want to violate a bilateral agreement. It’s like this: if you’re a Cabinet member and you’re a member of the ICC, and you want to stop the BRT in exchange for the fly-by-night project? Something must be wrong with their minds. There must be another agenda other than that,” Osmeña said.

He also reiterated his stand that he will not block the proposal to build a P155-billion Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Cebu supported by his arch critic, Presidential Assistant of the Visayas Michael Dino.

“What I’m against is that it’s an agenda to cancel the BRT,” the mayor said.
