Bogo City scores first victory in Governor’s Cup basketball tourney with rout of Tabogon
Bogo City clinched its first victory in the Cebu Governor’s Cup 2018 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball tournament by routing Tabogon, 86-67, in a North Division Bracket 3 game last Saturday at the Tuburan Gym in Tuburan town, northwestern Cebu.
Team captain Jim Paul Amistoso netted 24 points for Bogo City, which tasted its first win after two heartbreaking defeats early in the tournament.
Bogo City banked on a 21-13 tear in the second half to recover from a slow start and erect a comfortable 63-48 lead going into the final quarter.
Johndel Balazuela and Reeven John Abao chipped in 18 and 17 markers each for Bogo.
Owen Fuentes had 24 points for the losing squad, which tied Bogo in the standings with similar 1-2 (win-loss) cards.
Unbeaten Tuburan
Meanwhile, Tuburan remained unbeated after three outings after crushing Asturias, 97-75, in another North Division Bracket 3 game.
The home team also banked on a back-breaking 31-16 run in the second half to turn a tight game into a rout.
Nathanial Montecillo scored 16 points, while Miek Parilla and Steven Fritz Yuson added 15 markers each for the winning side.
Asturias led by Nico Joseph Kiamco and John David Anorta, who both scored 12 points.
In the North Division Bracket 4 games held at the Madridejos Sports Complex in Bantayan Island, Medellin upset the home team Madridejos, 100-78l; Bantayan Island edged San Remegio,102-71; and Daanbantayan beat Santa Fe, 101-89.
In the South Division Bracket 3, Badian won against Santander, 79-75, Ginatilan escaped Oslob, 82-80, and Samboan trounced Alegria, 76-66, at the Samboan Municipal Gym.
Other south division bracket 4 games saw Dumanjug winning over Moalboal, 100-76, and Aloguinsan stunning Alcantara, 82-49, at the Aloguinsan Municipal gym.
