Apawan leads Team Cebu City bets in Philippine Archery Cup

Team Cebu City archers made their presence felt in the second leg of the 2018 Philippine Archery Cup held over the weekend in Ormoc City.

Leading the Cebuano charge was Lloyd Apawan, who pocketed a gold medal in the 72 arrows round and a silver medal in the Olympic round of the junior and senior recurve category.

Also bringing home two silver medals was Zhack Randolf Torreon in the 72 arrows round and Olympic round of the cadet recurve category.

Apawan is currently under the training pool for the Philippine archery team and is aiming to become a regular member of the national squad.

The 18-year-old archer made it to the pool based on his performance in last year’s edition of the Philippine Archery Cup, this year’s first leg in Koronadal, South Cotabato and coaches’ recommendation.

Apawan is also a consistent medalist in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet, Palarong Pambansa and the Batang Pinoy regional and national finals.

Other members of Team Cebu City who saw action last weekend were Arlando Añora in the junior and senior recurve and Michael Solier in the senior recurve category.

They are all from the Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School and coached by Ma. Teresita F. Beltran.

Up next for the team is the Philippine National Games, which will be held here in Cebu from May 19 to 25.
