One of the first things Barangay Punta Engaño chairperson Diosaminda Hayashi did on assuming office last Monday was to change the door knobs and padlocks at the Barangay Hall.

This came after she received reports that former barangay captain Lourdes Ibag continued to visit and stay overnight at the Barangay Hall even after she assigned personnel to secure the site.

“We don’t know what is she really doing inside the office, it’s also possible that she was just sleeping but I deployed personnel so we won’t be accused if something is lost inside,” Hayashi said in Cebuano.

She said she secured a Writ of Execution from the court ordering her to assume office immediately. Hayashi said the same Writ of Execution also ordered Ibag to yield the post to her.

She said a proclamation from the Barangay Board of Canvassers ordered by the court is a formality that didn’t prevent her from assuming office immediately.

Hayashi won against Ibag in a court ordered recount four years ago.

She is running anew for barangay captain in Punta Engaño while Ibag filed her candidacy for barangay councilperson.

Hayashi will run against Barangay Councilman Crisanto Estardo, Ibag’s ally.
