DA-7 chief: Heat causes livestock prices to go up

PRICES of livestock have increased between P5 and P10 per kilo in the past weeks.

Director Salvador Diputado of the Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas (DA-7) said that they had observed these in their monitoring in the past weeks.

“Among nabantayan ang general trend magduwa duwa ra sa P5 ngadto sa P10 nga pagsaka per kilo (We noticed the general trend of the increase in prices between P5 and P10 per kilo),” Diputado said.

He, however, clarified that there are enough supply of livestock in Central Visayas.

He said that the livestock owners were passing the additional expenses on maintaining the health of their livestock amid the intense heat brought about by the dry season.

“Naapektuhan g’yud ang livestock dili lang kay dinhi pero tibuok na nasud. Nakamatikod ta og pagsaka sa ilang presyo sa mga niaging semana (Because it’s summer time, it affected the livestock not only in the region but the whole country. We saw the increase in the prices of livestock in the past weeks),” he said.

The owners would have to spend more on the physical condition of the livestock, such as chicken, cattle and pig, which are affected by the heat, said Diputado.

“It’s an environmental factor nga wa tay control. Mosaka g’yud ang presyo kun ting-init (It’s an environment factor that we do not have control. Prices of these livestock would increase during summer time), ” Diputado said.

He also encouraged livestock owners to find ways to lessen their expenses brought about by maintaining the condition of their livestock.
