TREB Monteras II’s “Respeto,” a film about the life of Hendrix (Abra) who dreams of becoming a rapper and joining the world of underground hip-hop, got the most number of nominations for this year’s Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS) Awards.
The list of nominees was shared by FAMAS 2018’s official Facebook page on Thursday.
“Respeto’s” nominations are Best Picture, Best Director (Treb Monteras II), Best Actor (Abra), Best Supporting Actor (Loonie and Dido dela Paz), Best Supporting Actress (Chai Fonacier and Thea Yrastorza), Best Original Screenplay (Treb Monteras II and Njel De Mesa), Best Cinematography (Ike Avellana ), Best Production Design (Popo Diaz), Best Editing (Lawrence Ang), Best Sound (Corrine De San Jose), Best Musical Score (Jay Oliver Durias), and Best Original Song (“Para Sa Respeto” by Abra and Loonie and “Kabuwisit Ba”).
Fonacier, a Cebu based actress was surprised that she was among the nominees under Best Supporting Actress category along with Odette Khan (Barboys), Adrienne Vegara (Bliss), Angeli Sanoy (Bomba), Yayo Aguila (Kiko Boksingero), Cristine Reyes (Seven Sundays), and Irma Adlawan (What Home Feels Like).
“Luh na shookt ko, mehn. Nominated kuno ko’s Famas 2018 for Best Supporting Actress hihihi meow salamat,” Fonacier Tweeted on Thursday.
In the film, Fonacier plays Betchay one of Hendrix’s (Abra) friends.
The awards ceremony called “66th Gabi ng Parangal” will be held at The Theatre at Solaire on June 10.
According to FAMAS’ official website, FAMAS Awards are honors given to achievers in the Philippine cinema for a calendar year.
FAMAS is an organization composed of award-winning writers and movie columnists.
To recall, “Respeto” also won big during the Cinemalaya Film Festival 2017. It also won Best Film, Best Director, and Audience Choice Award during the 16th International Cyprus Film Days Festival last week.
Meanwhile, Cebuano filmmaker Fatrick Tabada is also nominated for the Best Original Screenplay for his film “Si Chedeng at si Apple.”
“Si Chedeng at Si Apple” is a film about Apple (Oropesa) who beheads her husband and goes on an adventure with Chedeng (Diaz) while searching for her ex-girlfriend. The film was shot in Cebu and was one of the entries in last year’s Cinema One Original Film Festival.
“Si Chedeng at Si Apple” also recently joined at the Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy last week.
