MA. MAE Labora,19, planned to go on a vacation this weekend but she was thinking about not pursuing her plan because of the weather.
Labora, a student from Talisay City, said that her family wanted to go to a beach in Alcoy town, south of Cebu, but they had second thoughts about their weekend plan because of the rains in the past few days.
But Romeo Aguirre, weather specialist of Pagasa-Mactan, encouraged those who plan to spend the weekend on the beach to go ahead and enjoy the sun.
“We will have a fair weather this weekend. Especially this Sunday,” Aguirre told Cebu Daily News in a phone interview.
He said that the scattered rains in the past few days were caused by the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), but it would no longer be in the Visayas and would move to Mindanao.
He, however, said that rainshowers are normal during the month of May.
He said that of the 31 days of the month, nine days would have rain showers.
“Sakto lang g’yud ang pag-ulan ulan sa pagsugod sa karon nga buwan,” Aguirre said.
He said it would be sunny weather on the weekend, temperatures would rise, but there would be possible rainshowers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
Aguirre advised the public to be mindful also with the temperature since they forecast that heat index would reach to 41 degrees Celsius.
He said that temperatures would rise to a maximum of 32 to 33 degrees Celsius and temperatures would start rising at 9 a.m. until the afternoon. / with a report from CNU Intern Alexandra Mae Bustamante
