President is guest of honor in opening ceremonies of Philippine National Games in Cebu

Expect the opening ceremony of the Philippine National Games in Cebu to be extra special.

This after an official from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Visayas office said that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will attend the opening of the multi-sporting meet at the Cebu City Sports Center on May 19.

According to PSC Visayas Regional Coordinator Nonnie Lopez, the President will grace the event after he and other PSC officials met with the Presidential Security Group (PSG) last week for this reason.

“It’s 90 percent sure that he will attend the opening ceremonies because the PSG told us that he will also attend two separate events in Cebu, one for the Cebu Province and the other for the League of Municipalities of the Philippines,” Lopez said.

PSC Chairman William Ramirez in a press release confirmed the attendance of the President, who will be the guest of honor and speaker at the opening ceremonies.

“We are glad that President Duterte has accepted our invitation,” said PSC Visayas Oversight Commissioner Ramon Fernandez
70 percent ready

Cebu City and Cebu Province will co-host the meet from May 19 to 25. This sporting event serves as the official tryouts for those who want to qualify for the National Team.

PSC Visayas said it is 70-percent ready in terms of preparations. Lopez said they already inspected the playing venues as well as the billeting quarters that will be used by the different local government units (LGU) who will come to compete in 21 different sporting events. Venues will be in Cebu City, the City of Naga, Tabuelan town and Danao City.

“We already finalized the arrangement of the playing venues and the billeting quarters that will be used for the meet,” Lopez said.

In terms of manpower, Lopez said they are able to draw around 200 volunteers who will man the playing venues. There will also be around a hundred for the technical teams for each sporting event and 110 PSC officials from Manila.
