Truck will go around Cebu province to look for blood donors
The Cebu Provincial government conducted the blessing and inauguration of its mobile blood donation worth P1.2 million at the Capitol compound last Wednesday.
Provincial Health Office (PHO) Head Dr. Rene Catan said this is the first time the Capitol has a blood donation truck that will go around the province to look for blood donors.
“The truck will go around the province of Cebu to look for blood donors kay daghan namang nagkinahanglan og dugo (many people are in need of blood),” Catan said.
Catan said the truck, which has at least eight chairs and blood donation apparatus, can accommodate around eight blood donors at a time.
He said the truck was previously used by the Capitol as an x-ray mobile before being converted into a mobile blood donation.
“We refurbished the old X-ray mobile unit that was abandoned but still functional. So naka-save ta (We were able to save money),” Catan said.
He said the truck will have its first stopover in Bantayan Island in northern Cebu this year for the PHO’s blood donating program.
Catan said the donated blood will then be turned over to the Sacred Heart Hospital, Capitol’s partner hospital.
Meanwhile, the PHO is eyeing to promote the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City, Cebu into a level three hospital.
“This year atong paningkamoton nga ang (we will do our best for) Danao provincial hospital mahimong (to become) level 3 nga maka-process sa blood (that can process blood),” Catan said.
“The province is not yet capable to process blood,” he added.
