The ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Friday drew outrage from the netizens.
The Supreme Court voted 8-6 granting the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida, which questioned the qualification of Sereno to serve as the country’s top magistrate.
Jordan R. Casas said, “Darkest moment in our democracy!”
JM Larmen commented, “RIP to our democracy, what is next? I hope Digong (President Rodrigo Duterte) is now happy.’
While Chrissy Grey Resaba wrote, “This is absurd! How could these eight justices grant the petition which in fact it is unconstitutional? All for cementing and glorifying one’s name? Come on!
Removing once again the country’s top magistrate is a concrete manifestation of betraying our own country. It’s been two consecutive administrations that (made the) removal of chief justices possible.”
