INGEMAR Macarine, also known as the ‘Pinoy Aquaman,’ has not engaged in any open-water swim this year.
But that doesn’t mean he’s over with his passion for open-water swimming.
The 39-year-old Macarine, a native from Surigao but is now based in Tubigon, Bohol, said he is just taking a break and trying to shed off some weight in preparation for another attempt to cross the treacherous English Channel next year.
Macarine has had 31 successful open-water swims in different places so far but none in the 33-kilometer English Channel from Dover, United Kingdom to Calais, France.
He tried twice but faltered due to bad weather.
“I will be back next year for the English Channel swim,” said Macarine, who last conquered an open-water swim in December 2107 when he crossed the 10-kilometer stretch from Pamilican Island in Baclayon town to Panglao Island in Bohol. “I have to lose weight and get into shape because I want to cross the English Channel. That’s my ultimate dream.”
Although he is on a break, Macarine said he still is keeping himself fit by practicing intermittent fasting and being on a Mediterranean diet. He also plans to do a local open-water swim this July to keep himself in swimming form.
