Mothering also

LOGARTA

Many females have been doing a great deal of mothering even if they have not had children

Remy, one of our Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban leaders has been taking care of her nephew for over thirty years now.

He is differently abled. Remy has reared him to be a thoughtful, prayerful person, who rises with her at dawn to pray the rosary among other morning prayers.

He had been rejected by other family members and so Remy took care of him.

Like other mothers, Remy’s activities have experienced constraints due to having this ‘son’; she has refused fun activities to keep him company.

But she has the joy of this well-mannered, thoughtful, prayerful person.

Remy is also mother to her catechism pupils in the parish. She is a blessing for them because her lessons are lively and a great deal of fun for Remy has a great sense of humor.

Besides she sings for them and with them, since she is a very good singer.

During our Stations of the Cross in the Pier Area, she sang soulfully the Ave Maria in the station when Jesus is handed over to Mother Maria.

Her years of experience is a great asset in our Bible-sharing sessions.

Now Remy’s elder sister has also been handed over by other relatives for her care.

She has accepted this added responsibility, willingly accompanying this sibling wherever she needs to be.

Emily, our organizer, manages our various groups — youth, day-care, recipients of educational grants-in-aid. She is studying to complete a degree in Social Work.

At the same time the youngest son and grandson of GKK members who passed away have been under Emily’s care.

Editha is taking care of her granddaughter because her daughter is out of the country. But she is very dutiful in her GKK tasks. She is also regularly attends meditation sessions.

Citas also takes care of a grandchild but continues to manage GKK finances well.

She attends meditation sessions without fail.Juliet, another GKK Leader, has five children, including a pair of twins. With them is a grandson. But during regular school days Juliet is also in-charge of a daycare group.

Maurita, another GKK leader, a widow, is a mother of two. She leads a Bible Sharing Group. We have been gladdened by the news of the possibility that the younger son may be joining the seminary.

Juliet, Maurita, and Emily with all the multi-tasking they do also take turns mothering Sr. Vincent in her sick bed. All of us who hold Sr. Vincent very dearly are very happy that we have these three angels. They are veterans in gentle caring and patience.

Maurita, at times, comes up with one of the GKK songs.

Perhaps meditation sessions have also honed them in serenity.

But having known Sr. Vincent and all the affection and attentive concern she had extended we are reminded that all the good things one does comes back a hundredfold.
