Archdiocese of Cebu prepares for 2019 National Youth Day

THE Archdiocese of Cebu is hosting the National Youth Day next year that will be participated by 10,000 to 15,000 delegates coming from the different parts of the country.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said the celebration is timed with the diocese’s celebration of the Year of the Youth in 2019 and the 500th Year of its Christianity (YOC) in 2021.

Palma said that the NYD celebration is also the diocese’s way of reaching the young.

“We have many young people searching for friendship, meaning and joy. So it’s an opportunity for them to meet new friends, people of their age, who share the same hope and aspiration” he said.

Fr. Conegundo Garganta, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)-Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY), said a primary requirement in the selection of a NYD host is the presence of a dynamic and vibrant youth ministry.

Fr. Andrei Vintanilla, assistant chair of the Commission on Youth (COY), said the NYD is scheduled from April 23 – 28, 2019.

Registration fee is at P1,500 per delegate and will already include an NYD kit that will contain basic medicines and some handouts.

Vintanilla said delegates will be accommodated in foster homes identified by parishes that are located from Liloan town in the north to Naga City in the province’s south part.

NYD is celebrated after every two or three years.
