FEU-bound Kiseo out to lead Mandaue to Governor’s Cup volleyball crown
Mandaue City team captain Shiela Mae Kiseo is on a mission.
The 17-year-old from barangay Cambaro in Mandaue City will again be Mandaue’s focal point of offense when it takes on Carcar in Game 2 of the Governor’s Cup Under-18 Inter-Cities and Municipalities Volleyball Tournament today at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Mandaue can go for the kill with a win in today’s 5 p.m. game. And by the looks of it, Mandaue has everything going its way, playing in a court it hasn’t lost in so far in this tournament.
At the forefront of its success this season is Kiseo, who used to play for the University of San Jose-Recoletos in the Cesafi juniors volleyball tournament.
Mandaue City head coach Jerry Pedriguez said he believes Kiseo is not just the best in the team but of the whole tournament.
“Kiseo is one of the strongest spikers in the high school division,” he said.
Unfinished business
After leading Mandaue to the Game 1 victory in Carcar last Monday, the 5-foot-7 Kiseo revealed she is playing her last tournament in Cebu as she brings her talents to the north to play for Far Eastern University (FEU).
“I was approached by FEU last year but I wasn’t ready to settle far from my family yet,” she said. “[But] now, I am ready.”
But she’s not leaving until she takes care of business here. Kiseo looks to wrap up the series tonight and avoid playing a decisive Game 3 to be held at the University of San Carlos gym.
“As the team captain, I will encourage my team to play even better. We will push hard, think positive and enjoy the game,” Kiseo said.
When she’s done with her mission, Kiseo said she hopes to see her teammates continue leading Mandaue to the top of the Governor’s Cup tournament.
“I wish that my colleagues would continue in playing for the team,” she said. “Keep fighting. Make yourself proud, make the team proud and make our city proud.”
