‘Turn peso net to net cafe’

OPERATORS of peso net businesses in Lapu-Lapu City are encouraged to convert these into an internet cafe business.

Mayor Paz Radaza made this call on Tuesday as she promised to close peso net businesses in the city after she received several complaints about its use, which included the concern of the Department of Education of minors accessing porn sites, violent games, and other sites not suitable for children.

Radaza said she had tasked the City Legal Office to look into the procedure on how to close the peso net businesses.

A peso net is an arcade type computer unit used to access the internet, where a peso inserted in a slot would allow the user to go online for a few minutes.

Mayor Radaza said, that aside from operating without permits, these peso nets all over the city are being made the venue for those students, who cut classes, out-of-school youth, and gangsters.

She said that if students would want access to the net, then they should go to an internet cafe, which are covered by city guidelines and policies as indicated in their permits — such as the blocking of porn sites from users.
