Mandaue City, Cebu–For her tournament-long brilliance Mandaue City’s Shiela Mae Kiseo was named tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Governor’s Cup 18-Under Inter-Cities and Municipalities Volleyball Tournament 2018.
The 17-year-old Kiseo helped Mandaue bag the crown, leading the team to a masterful 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 victory over the City of Carcar in Game 2 of the best-of-three championship series at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex on Wednesday night.
But instead of taking the credit for leading Mandaue to a dominating finals stint wherein it didn’t drop a single set in two games, the 5-foot-7 volleybelle from Barangay Cambaro in Mandaue City shared the award with her teammates.
“I am not the MVP. We are the MVP,” she said while pointing to her teammates after the Game 2 victory at home. “If not for my team, I cannot receive this prestigious award. So it’s [all because of] the entire team.”
Kiseo, a former University of San Jose-Recoletos volleybelle who is bringing her talents to the Far Eastern University in Manila after this tournament, was pleased to have helped her team win the crown.
“I made sure that before I advance to my next journey, I can leave something memorable to my teammates. And this is it.”
Kiseo was among the promising volleybelles this season, leading the Mandaue team to the top of the Northern Division.
“I owe all of the success to God. I also want to thank my family and all the people who supported us.”
