A POLICEMAN will start spending his nights in jail after fatally shooting a driver in a traffic altercation in Marikina City.
Police Officer (PO) 1 Edgardo Villamil Jr. of Pasig City Police Station has been charged with murder after surrendering for the killing of driver Esteban Bunga Jr. and injuring Arnold Eayam in a heated argument at Tanguile corner Apitong streets in Marikina Heights Wednesday night.
According to a spot report, Villamil accidentally hit the side mirror of the Bunga’s vehicle, prompting him to alight. The 35-year old victim confronted the suspect but was attacked by the policeman and his two other companions.
Villamil drew his firearm, shooting Bunga several times in different parts of the body, while Eayam sustained gunshot wounds in both of his ankles.
The victims were immediately rushed to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center where Bunga died at 1:40 a.m. while undergoing treatment.
Villamil personally surrendered to Marikina City Police Chief Senior Supt. Roger Quesada at 11 p.m.
The suspect is currently detained at Marikina City Police Station.
