BFP awards ‘Modern Day’ heroes

At least 380 fire personnel and 30 organizations of fire volunteers from all over the region were recognized by the Bureau of Fire and Protection in Central Visayas (BFP-7) during its awarding ceremony held at Parklane International Hotel on Friday (June 1).

This is the first time that the BFP-7 hosted an event awarding different individuals who have shown great heroism and compassion to their fellowmen.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Eduardo Año commended the members of BFP-7 and Sr. Supt. Samuel Tadeo, BFP-7 Regional Director, for his leadership.

”While people are running away from danger, our firefighters are going into the danger zone in order to save lives and properties,” Año said in his opening message.

Among the awardees was 12-year-old Jeralden Castillano.

Castillano was lauded for her heroism in saving her six other siblings in a fire that razed their house on April this year where she singlehandedly carried them one by one out of their blazing house.

Each awardee received the Medalya ng Kasanayan while Certificates of Appreciation were given to the participating organizations.

Awards were also given to those who courageously helped in putting out the fire that hit Metro Ayala on January of this year.
