ALA Promotions International CEO says unbeaten Boholano boxer still under contract
Hold your horses, Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo isn’t free to change his team just yet.
This after ALA Promotions International CEO Michael P. Aldeguer said that the unbeaten Boholano boxer is still under contract with ALA, which means he can’t transfer to Las Vegas-based Now Boxing Promotions of Joe Dunkin.
In an interview with Cebu Daily News on Tuesday, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) international featherweight champion from Tagbilaran City, Bohol, said he was going to shift to a new promoter in Dunkin’s Now Boxing Promotions and a new manager in Malaysia-based Vikram Sivapragasam.
He said his contract with ALA Promotions International has expired.
But Aldeguer, who is out of the country, clarified the issue, saying the 22-year-old Magsayo still has a live four-year promotional contract under ALA Promotions International.
“Even if his managerial contract has expired, Mark still has a four-year promotional contract with ALA Promotions and we expect him to follow the contract to avoid complications that would affect his career,” Aldeguer said in a text message to Cebu Daily News. “If there are other promoters interested, they need to talk to us as not to complicate things.”
Aldeguer has promoted and managed Magsayo’s career since 2013.
Asked about the details of Magsayo’s existing contract with ALA Promotions, Aldeguer said ALA’s lawyers will reveal those in due time.
Magsayo, who is unbeaten in 18 fights with 13 of those wins done via knockouts, is the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) international featherweight champion and currently the top-ranked contender in his division. He will become the mandatory challenger of current world featherweight champion Oscar Valdez of Mexico. He is ranked seventh in the IBF and number two in the WBC.
