With the discovery of hot motorcycles by the Bureau of Customs in central Visayas (BOC-7), netizens urged the government to find purpose for the items rather than destroying them.
Les Sharp noted that “smuggling of consumer products only occurs where taxes and or distribution margins are ridiculously high. It’s a symptom of govt. greed and or a broken marketplace.”
Kenneth J. Ricacho said, “e donate nlng na sa Police. mapuslan pana sa pag patrol2x kisa nmn dugmokon kasayang lng (It will be waste to destroy them when the police can use them for patrols).”
Deiparine Clyde agreed, saying crushing the motorcycles will not serve any good. He added: Gitarong nalang ta nig process…Gi palosot pa gyud para maka barato kuno! pero awa tiwas noong motor.” (The owners should have processed their papers properly. In their desire to save on taxes, they lost everything.)
At least 12 container vans of smuggled motorcycles were opened by the BOC-7 on Thursday, June 7.
