BANTAYAN Island, Medellin, Alegria, and Barili advanced to the next round in the ongoing playoffs of the Cebu Governor’s Cup 2018 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament.
The Bantayan Seamasters defeated the favored Medellin, 71-60, at the Bantayan Island municipal gym last Sunday to finish their Cluster B phase campaigns with similar 2-1 (win-loss) cards. Both advance to the second round of the quarterfinal round.
In Cluster D, Alegria booted out Ginatilan with a 112-90 win at the Alegria municipal gym and Barili eliminated Dumanjug with a thrilling, 75-73 victory to advance, too.
The second round of the quarterfinals will pit the four north division teams in another single round robin format where the top two teams will vie for the north division title.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Minglanilla Archangels suffered an upset, losing to Sibonga, 73-66, in Cluster C action at the Sibonga municipal gym also last Sunday while Talisay City opened its quarterfinal campaign with a dominating, 69-39, over Argao.
