The Department of Psychology and Library Information Science (DPLIS) under the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of San Jose-Recoletos conducted a pinning ceremony to send off its fourth year psychology students for internship last May 26, 2018.
The pinning ceremony kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Armand Ricaborda, OAD. This was followed by the introduction and inspirational message by the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Glenn Pajares.
Pajares pointed out that receiving the pins encompasses a great responsibility.
“The pinning ceremony is not just a ceremony for its own sake, the pin is not merely an emblem or a souvenir to keep; rather, a reminder of a great responsibility and task that needs to be embraced and discharged amidst the challenges that we are facing,” Dr. Pajares said in his speech.
Maryjun Delgado, a registered psychologist and a faculty from the department, emphasized the significance of the ceremony and the meaning of the symbols that are found on the pins.
She expressed that the ceremony is not just the acceptance of the metal pins, rather, it reflects the ethics and competence of being a psychologist. She stressed that the profession is a service-oriented one which aims to touch the hearts and minds of the people.
The presentation of interns was done by Leo Antiporta, chairman of DPLIS. He presented 151 candidates who were eligible to become interns.
These candidates were called to go up on stage with their guardians to don the pin on their upper left chest.
After donning the pin, the interns made their pledge of commitment, which was led by Karen Manatad, the Vice President for External of the Josenian Association of Psychology Students.
The pinning ceremony was made possible through the efforts of the organization, the department, the college, the students, the faculty, and the school and the pinning committee headed by May Wong.
