Minglanilla plays crucial game vs Talisay today

The defending champions Minglanilla Archangels play a crucial game against Talisay City today in the playoff quarterfinal round of the Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Talisay City Sports and Cultural Center.

The Archangels, who escaped Argao, 72-65, at the Minglanilla Sports Complex last Monday evening, will be trying to stay alive in Cluster C competition.

The team currently has a 1-1 (win-loss) record in the quarterfinals after losing its first assignment against Sibonga, 73-66, last Sunday.
Only the top two teams per cluster will advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Talisay is leading the cluster with a 2-0 card while Sibonga has a 1-1 slate, after losing to Talisay, 99-70, also on Monday. Argao has a 0-2 record.

With the current standings, Minglanilla is in danger of missing the bus. It needs to win to advance. A loss will be complicated. It still has a chance if Argao beats Sibonga since the three will finish with identical 1-2 records.

In case that scenario plays out, the last spot to the second round will have to be determined by quotient system.

There’s also a chance that Talisay, Minglanilla and Sibonga finish with a tie at 2-1.

This is if Minglanilla wins over Talisay and Sibonga beats Argao.

If this happens, the quotient system will also be used to determine the top two teams that will advance to the second round.

So for Minglanilla to have a greater chance of advancing, it will have to win big against Talisay City tonight.

The Archangels will hope to get the needed contribution from Marc Justine Nebril and Clint Carl Basister, who led Minglanilla by scoring 16 points each in the win against Argao.
