BALANCING FLAVORS AND FAMILY

MUCH like balancing flavors, toeing the delicate line between work and family life can be challenging and fulfilling at the same time.

For British chef Jason Atherton, who owns 17 restaurants across the globe including The Pig & Palm in Cebu, he appears to have found that harmonious balance in juggling his epicurean journey and raising his two daughters Keziah and Jemimah, with his wife, Irha.

“We teach them everything from the basics to stewing. They love cooking pasta. They love to bake. They love all kinds of food with rice much like their mom,” shares Jason Atherton who ran away from home at age 16 to pursue his dreams of becoming a chef.

He worked with accomplished names in the industry like celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, but his breakthrough came when he opened his first restaurant, Pollen Street Social in London which was awarded a Michelin-star after just one year of operation.

Now, he has a total of four, one Michelin-starred restaurants.

As he whips up cuisine with a flair entirely his own, Jason’s masterpieces are the ones that often go unseen: the dishes he so lovingly prepares with and for his children.

“Top three dishes I love cooking for my children at home would have to be Fresh Pasta, Lemon Tart and one of our favorites, on the Filipino side, Pork and Chicken Adobo. The two kids go nuts for it,” adds Jason.

Jason proudly carries the titles and responsibilities of father, husband and chef extraordinaire with a steady hand, striking a unique balance between work and family.
