Cataraja victorious in hometown bout

ALA Boxing Gym prospect Kevin Jake “KJ” Cataraja showcased a stellar performance in front of his hometown folks, scoring a third-round technical knockout victory over Indonesian Frengky Rohi in the main event of the IDOL Boxing Series 3 at the Tabuelan Astrodome in Tabuelan town, northwestern Cebu on Saturday night.

With the win, Cataraja improved his chances of fighting in the undercard of the all-Filipino world title showdown between Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and Aston “Mighty” Palicte in August.

ALA Promotions International earlier said it planned to include Cataraja in the undercard if he performed well in his bout against Rohi.

The University of the Visayas (UV) criminology graduate not only performed well but put up a great performance to remain unbeaten in eight bouts. Seven of his wins were via knockouts.

Rohi, meanwhile, suffered his sixth defeat. He has five wins, one via knockout, and one draw.

Cataraja dropped Rohi twice in the bout. The first came in the first round while the finishing blow came at the 2:44 mark of the third round via a left hook to the Indonesian’s chin.

In the co-main event, Virgel Vitor (13-1-0, 7 KOs) outclassed journeyman Gerpaul Valero (22-21-4, 16 KOs) via unanimous decision.

The 20-year-old Vitor dropped Valero once in the seventh round and outpunched him the whole 10 rounds.

All three judges scored it for Vitor, 98-91, 97-92 and 100-89.
