HOST country Russia sealed its Round of 16 entry alongside favourites Spain, Portugal and Uruguay with Group A and B done with their group stage matches in the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Uruguay, who dealt a 10-man Russia its first loss in this World Cup, arranged the first Round of 16 match against Portugal on June 30, 2 a.m. Philippine time.
The two-time World Cup champion Uruguay ended as the winners in Group A by tallying nine points after winning all three of its group stage matches.
The La Celeste relegated Russia to the runner-up spot when it blanked the host country 3-0 in their final group stage match.
Russia will face Group B winners Spain, who not only benefited from its draw against Morocco but also from Iran being able to draw its match against Portugal.
The lack of drama in Group A was made up in full by the final matches in Group B, wherein Spain had to fight to stay at the top while Iran needed a win to advance at the expense of Portugal, which only needed a draw to seal its place in the Last 16.
Also providing the drama was Morocco, which managed to draw Spain, 2-all.
