The assistant regional director of The Department of Interior and Local Government in Central Visayas (DILG-7) will temporarily take over the reins of the office from Regional Director Rene Burdeos, who has retired from the service last Thursday.
Assistant Regional Director Ma. Loisella Lucino will serve as DILG-7’s OIC or its acting director.
Lucino promised to continue Burdeos projects and the projects of the DILG.
She described Burdeos as a champion in implementing the different programs of the department.
“He made the committee on awards and incentives for organic employees in DILG-7 functional. Under his watch, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor were awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance,” Lucino said.
She said that DILG-7 has also produced outstanding Lupon Tagapamayapa and even awarded at national level during Burdeos watch.
Aside from these, the department has also advocated the strengthening and creation of Anti-Drug Abuse Council from provinces, municipalities, cities and barangay level; and even advocated in educating the community about Federalism.
“We will continue all these programs and other incoming programs of DILG,” she added.
Burdeos, who had served the DILG for more than 42 years, has already reached the mandatory age of retirement for public officials which is 65-years-old.
He retired on Thursday with Lucino taking over as acting director – a task she is capable of handling since she also has been in the DILG service for 27 years.
Lucino was formerly assigned as the provincial director of DILG Bohol Province. She was also assigned as the city director of DILG Mandaue, planning officer and a division chief of DILG-7.
Burdeos, on the other hand, traces his roots in Cebu with his family residing here before World.War II.
But during the war, his family was forced to migrate to Mindanao.
His mother is a Cebuana while his father is a native of Butuan City.
Burdeos has served as regional director of DILG-7 for five years.
“From January 2006 to April of 2007, I was first assigned as regional director in DILG here in Central Visayas before I was transferred to CARAGA in April 2007 up to March of 2012. In April 2012 to May 2015, I was transferred in Region 10 and in May 2015 up to present, I was assigned again in region 7,” Burdeos said.
Before he became a regional director, he also served as assistant regional director of DILG-7 in 1997 to 1998.
In 1982, Burdeos passed the Bar exam, after he graduated from Xavier University in Cagayan De Oro.
Currently, Burdeos’ family is residing in Agusan del Sur.
