SIX days after Lawyer Salvador “Buddy” Solima was shot dead inside his house, his family brought his remains to his final resting place.
His wife, Verose, who survived the attack against them, was not able to attend Solima’s burial as she is still recuperating at the Chong Hua Hospital.
Solima’s only son, Christopher, begged off from issuing any statement, saying he wanted his family to grieve in private.
The Requiem Mass held at the Alliance of Two Hearts Parish in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City was attended by close family and friends.
Tearful family members shadowed his white casket as they bid him their last farewell.
From the church, a convoy of at least 10 motorcycles, 35 motor vehicles and three buses were escorted by the Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO) of Barangay Capitol Site, proceeded to the Cebu South Memorial Garden, some 15 kilometers away, where Solima was laid to rest.
A barangay official who asked not to be named, said they volunteered to escort the convoy because the slain lawyer was a “close” family friend.
Solima and his wife were shot by two men inside his home in Singson Village, Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City on Monday, July 2. Solima sustained gunshot wounds on his head and chest and died. His wife survived the attack.
The police have filed charges of murder and frustrated murder against three suspects last Thursday.
Ricarte Del Corro, one of the suspects, was identified by staff of Solima’s family as one of the gunmen who went to the lawyer’s residence, pretending to be a client, and shot Solima.
Alberto Baluyos and his younger brother, Alvin, were accused of having a hand in the crime because of a past disagreement between the Solimas and the older Baluyos over an alleged non-payment of a property that the Baluyos family sold to Solima.
In an interview on Thursday, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) chief Ryan Devaras said they are still hunting for the fourth suspect who was with Del Corro in Solima’s residence.
