THE LYCANS continued their stellar showing in endurance races with John Paul Suson placing third overall in the 2nd Kinabayo Festival Invitational Duathlon race that was held last Sunday in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Juson, the winner of the Duathlon race in the XTerra Albay last month, also added a third place finish in the 20-29 age group.
Iman Alferez rounded out the podium finishers as he too placed third in the 30-39 age class.
Finishing the run-bike-run race were team leader Dondon Aropo, Jeff Herrera, Barok Ceniza, Jongkey Minoza and Kyle Valle.
The Lycans were a dominant basketball team that won titles in numerous recreational leagues in and around Cebu. However, Aropo admitted that they have shifted their attention to endurance races due to the dearth of basketball tournaments here in Cebu.
“I just decided that we would pick and choose what basketball tournaments we’re going to play in so that we can shift our attention to duathlon/triathlon because not only is it fun, it allows us to bond together with our families as we get to go to different places,” said Aropo.
He also shared that the team runs three times a week, with a minimum distance of eight kilometers.
Then on the weekends, they take their bikes and ride.
The Lycans are now setting their eyes on 1st Tanjay City Duathlon Challenge on July 22.
The race is composed of a five-kilometer run, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a three-kilometer run.
