MINIMUM wage earners in Central Visayas have something to look forward to.
Lawyer Alvin Villamor, director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (Dole-7) said workers will already start to receive increases ranging from P10 to P20 in their daily pay starting on August 3.
Villamor said they only needed to publish the wage order from the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) in local dailies before this will take effect.
“We will now publicize the approved wage order in the newspapers and after 15 days or exactly on August 3, the order becomes effective,” he said.
The Central Visayas office of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved in June the wage increases in the region following a petition for a P155 increase filed by the Cebu Labor Coalition and the P120 increase filed by the Associated Labor Trade Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP).
Workers in Class A cities that include Cebu City and its neighboring towns and cities from Danao City in the north to Carcar City in the southern part of the province are expected to receive a P20 daily pay hike starting on August 3.
Those coming from Class B, C and D areas like Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol and the rest of Cebu province are expected to get an increase of P15 per day while whose working in Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBE) will be getting P10 per day.
NWPC recently approved RTWPB-7’s wage order.
A copy of the NWPC order was sent to the Dole-7 office last week, said Villamor.
