Calisang satisfied with Wenceslao’s draw

Team Joeric Boxing’s top honcho Joeric Calisang was impressed with how his prized boxer Rodel Wenceslao performed against the heavily favored Uzbek boxer Jasur Akhmadjonov in their fight in the “Brawl at the Mall” last Sunday at the Robinsons Place in General Santos City.

The 25-year old Wenceslao fought Akhmadjonov to split draw decision in their eight-round showdown in the co-main event of the Sanman Boxing Promotions fight card.

Two judges scored an identical 77-75, each for Wenceslao and Akhmadjonov, while another judge scored it 76-all.

Wenceslao’s record now stands at 12 wins (5KOs), 16 losses and two draws. Akhmadjonov logged his first draw and remained unbeaten after five bouts.

“Wenceslao’s opponent was very tough but I was kind of impressed of what he’s done. I still told him to improve his boxing skills furthermore because we wanted him to climb in the rankings. In my own opinion, Wenceslao led the scorecards but the fight was very close that could go either way, a split draw was the best decision,” said Calisang.

According to Wenceslao’s trainer Edsel Tuñacao, they will bounce back in their next fight in September, where Wenceslao faces Elmo Traya of ALA Boxing Gym.

There’s also a promoter in Manila who is interested in giving his boxer a fight abroad.
