A CEBU City lawmaker snagged the chairmanship of the House committee on natural resources in the wake of last month’s change of leadership in Congress.
“To say that I was totally surprised is an exaggeration. It was unexpected, but at the same time, I was somehow looking forward to such an opportunity to play a bigger role,” said Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa of Cebu City’s south district.
Abellanosa was one of the 184 lawmakers who signed a manifesto to replace former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez with Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“Since we are in the middle of a term, the committee already has hundreds of pending bills and resolutions. I would like to make sure that the change in leadership does not derail (these measures),” he said.
Abellanosa said this legislation will be beneficial to the preservation of forest resources in Cebu and the rest of the country.
