‘Madilim ang Gabi’

PISTA NG PELIKULANG PILIPINO

ONE of the entries to this year’s Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) highlights the Philippine government’s drug war.

Veteran actors Phillip Salvador and Gina Alajar star in Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr.’s “Madilim ang Gabi” (Dark is the Night).

In the film, Salvador and Alajar play Lando and Sara, respectively. They have a son named Alan, a character played by Felix Rocco.

The full trailer begins with Lando and Sara’s family eating dinner when they hear gunshots in their area.

An audio of President Rodrigo Duterte is then heard, warning the public about his war against drugs.

“Mo prangka ko ninyo, sa panahon ko tatapusin ko yang problema sa droga. Ako’y nakikiusap. Wag ho kayong pumasok diyan kasi papatayin ko talaga kayo,” the president says.

A casualty is then reported after the encounter in the area.

This prompted the family to leave the place for a safer one and to be away from the drug war.

Sara then reminds her son Alan.

“Alan, delikado ang panahon ngayon. Itigil mo na yan,” she says.

In another scene, Sara is on the phone looking for her Alan who has gone missing.

Lando and Sara start looking for their son.

“Sa tingin mo may kinalaman kaya sina Kidlat?” Lando asks Sara.

“Bakit naman nila kukunin si Alan? Wala namang kasalanan ang bata sa kanila,” Sara replies.

“Papaano kung gusto nila tayong takutin?” Lando answers.

This forces Alan’s parents to go back to their previous home even if it is a risky move.

Prior to PPP, “Madilim ang Gabi” (Dark is the Night) was part of last year’s 42nd Toronto International Film Festival.

The movie is produced by Brian Charles Enterprises, Deus Lux Mea Films, Swift Productions, and Oro de Siete Productions Inc.
