Organizers of 7th NAGT see city of Naga as a perfect venue for triathlon
After a successful campaign in northern Cebu last year, the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) goes south for its Cebu leg this year.
The event, which will offer standard, sprint and super sprint distances, will be held in the city of Naga on October 7, 2018.
The NAGT 2018 is a series of races that sanctioned by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap). It also serves as qualifiers for the national team for triathlon and the official race for national team members rankings.
This year’s race will be handled by TSE Live Inc. of Tonyson Lee.
In a press conference at the Grillers Steak House in Banilad, Cebu yesterday, Lee, also the manager of the vaunted Cebu-based Rider Omega Tri Team, said he believed they found a fitting venue in Naga.
“I wanted a perfect location for the race. We checked Naga and I find it perfect for the run, bike and swim,” said Lee, the CEO of TSE Live.
Last year’s edition was held in Camotes Island, northern Cebu.
Arthur Villanueva, City Administrator of Naga, said the city has given its all-out support for the upcoming triathlon event.
“We are very proud to host the NAGT. We had hosted several sports activities and a triathlon [before]. But I know this event is on a higher level. I am hoping that this will be a successful one,” Villanueva said.
Also present during the press conference was Trap president Tom Carrasco and Cebuano celebrity Paul Jake Castillo, also of TSE Live.
“We decided to take on organizing this event because we want to bring in more high quality triathlon events,” Castillo said.
The standard distance is 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run while the sprint distance is 750-meter swim, 20-km bike and 5-km run. The super sprint distance is 500-meter swim, 10-km bike and 2.5-km run.
Interested triathletes can avail the early registration with fees pegged at P3,000 (Standard), P2,500 (Sprint) and P2,000 (Super Sprint) until September 7.
Registration forms are available at Autofocus Bike Center, Metro Hub Multisports and Terra Bike Solutions outlets.
