THE Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Board approved the staging of 12-under football and chess competitions in its 18th season that starts August 25.
The decision was made in a board meeting Thursday night headed by Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy.
Earlier, the league already approved the addition of 12-under competition for basketball starting this season.
Tiukinhoy said that this is Cesafi’s contribution to the grassroots development of sports in Cebu.
According to board member Rico Navarro, most likely to see action in the 12-Under football are teams from Don Bosco Technical College, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and University of San Carlos. Navarro added that they are expecting teams from University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Southern Philippines Foundation as well.
Players eligible for the 12-Under division are those born in 2006 or, according to Tiukinhoy, those who are 12 years old while the tournament is ongoing.
As for chess, Tiukinhoy said they have yet to find out what schools will be fielding in representatives.
SMS Boystown as guest team Tiukinhoy also announced that the Cesafi Board has also approved the request of the Sisters of Mary School Boystown to compete in the secondary division as a guest participant.
The charitable school located in Tungkop, Minglanilla, south of Cebu, has been a recipient of the grassroots sports training program of the Cebu province spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission since last year.
The Board earlier approved the SMS Boystown’s application for 12-Under basketball.
It plans to send players in the secondary division of football, table tennis, athletics, volleyball and swimming.
