Greco convicted

LEODEGRECO “Greco” Sanchez, the son of the late Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr., will serve 12 years to 14 years in jail for possession of illegal drugs (4.35 grams of shabu), and six months to two years for possession of illegal drug paraphernalia (disposable lighters and tin foil).

In a joint decision, acting Presiding Judge Mory A. Nueva of Branch 13 of the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City found Sanchez guilty of both charges.

Sanchez was convicted of possession of illegal drugs while he and his friend, Edward Tevez, were found guilty of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sanchez was also ordered to pay a total fine of P310,000.

“All told, the pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution have satisfactorily proven the guilt of Leodegreco and Edward in these cases beyond reasonable doubt. The defense of denial and alibi are generally considered as the weakest of all the defenses and is viewed with disfavor for it can easily concocted,” the joint decision stated.

Sanchez and Teves were caught by law enforcers allegedly using shabu in a house in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City in 2013. He was then arrested and posted bail, promised to undergo rehabilitation at the drug rehabilitation facility in Argao town for almost two years and was released.

However, just last year, Sanchez was arrested for indiscriminate firing, illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and drug paraphernalia at their family-owned farm at Barangay San Juan, Tuburan town.

Sanchez is currently detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.
