TWO boxers from the Omega Boxing Gym will be seeing action in the Double Rumble fight card at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex this Saturday.
One of Omega Boxing Gym’s stalwart, the unbeaten Christian “The Bomb” Araneta and Marjon “The Journey” Piencenavez will take on tough opponents in Jerry Tomogdan and Jeffrey Stella, respectively.
The 23-year-old Cebuano Araneta will take on Tomogdan for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia Silver light flyweight title in the main event.
Araneta sports an impressive 15-0-0 (win-loss-draw) record with 13 wins by knockouts. Tomogdan, who fought and lost to Japanese Riku Kano for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title last year in Sanda, Japan, holds a record of 25-9-4 with 13 knockout wins.
This will be Araneta’s second fight after an 11-month layoff after suffering from a shoulder injury last year.
His comeback fight last April 3 against Ian Ligutan turned out huge after scoring a second-round knockout win in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Tomogdan’s most recent fight was on April 28 versus Donny Mabao, where he won by a seventh-round knockout.
Piencenaves, from Agusan del Norte, is also unbeaten. He has five wins (four knockouts) and one draw. He fights Mandaue City’s Stella (4-5-2, 4KOs) for six rounds in a super flyweight division match.
The co-main event will feature an undefeated French warrior Jaber Zayani (14-0-0, 8 KO’s) squaring off against Pinoy boxer Eduardo Mancito (16-8-2 9 KOs) of Iligan in a 10-rounder super featherweight battle for the WBO Oriental Strap. Five other bouts will be featured in the fight card.
