CEBU’s premier chess group, the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca), officially renewed its affiliation with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), the national governing body for chess, in its aim to further enhance the quality of chess in Cebu in both the senior and grassroots level.
With this, all tournaments of Cepca will remain NCFP rated, which means that the results will be recorded by NCFP. This in turn will help improve the rankings of NCFP-rated woodpushers.
The development would not have been possible without the efforts of Cepca President Eng. Jerry Maratas and Cepca officer Engr. John Velarde.
In line with Cepca’s thrust to enhance chess in Cebu, an open chess tournament and a monthly age group tournaments will take place on August 25 and August 26, respectively.
The open chess tournament will be held at the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City. It will use a seven-round Swiss system format competition with 25-minute time control.
The champion will receive P2,500 purse and on top of that is a slot for the grand finals on December while the runners-up will receive cash prizes as well. Registration fee is P200.
The Cepca age group and the Cepca monthly tournament will be at the same venue.
It will have two age groups, 16-under and 12-under, and will also use a seven-round Swiss system format with 25-minute time control.
The champion will get P1,000 purse while the second to fourth placers will receive cash prizes also. Registration for the tournament is also P200.
The monthly tournament, which is a qualifier for the grand finals on December, will have categories in division B players, kids, and ladies.
This tournament uses a five-round Swiss system format competition with 15-minute time control.
The champion will pocket P1,500 while the second to fourth placers will receive cash prizes as well.
