THE CEBU Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) will be sending a girls’ futsal team to compete in the upcoming Batang Pinoy National Finals from September 18 to 25 in Baguio City.
CPSC executive director Atty. Ramil Abing said the girls’ futsal team will take the spot of its boys’ basketball squad that backed out due to conflict of schedule.
Cebu Province’s futsal team will be composed mostly of players from the Palarong Pambansa gold medal winning team of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC).
“[They] will surely deliver a good performance [and] perhaps [win] a medal in the tournament,” said Abing.
The SHS-AdC futsal team that competed for Central Visayas in the last Palarong Pambansa shocked National Capital Region (NCR), 10-2, in the championship match. NCR was manned from Assumption College and Miriam College.
According to Abing, the Cebu Province team for the BP Nationals will be composed of 220 athletes.
“We told the athletes to do their best in their respective sports. I am sure that there are several sports where we can win gold medals such as in futsal, softball, arnis, and swimming to name a few,” said Abing.
Out of the 27 sporting events lined up in the National Finals, Cebu Province will be competing in 12. These are athletics, badminton, boxing, baseball, chess, lawn tennis, softball, triathlon, futsal, taekwondo, karatedo, and arnis.
