Unless the court will grant a temporary restraining order (TRO) filed by the opposition camp, the Cebu City Government and the Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc. (UHRI) will push through with the groundbreaking of Isla Dela Victoria.

Francisco Fernandez, the executive assistant of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, said that Cebuano tycoon John Gokongwei Jr. will also be present.

“We will push through with the groundbreaking this week. They (UHRI) are now in the process of acquiring the permits needed,” said Fernandez.

The mayor’s executive assistant added that UHRI wanted to start with the development of the eight-hectare Kawit Island in the South Road Properties (SRP) as soon as possible.

The joint venture agreement between the city government and UHRI was officially signed last Friday (August 17).
